Frizz is caused by hair that doesn’t lie down smooth but sticks up or curls independently, causing an irregular, frizzy texture. Frizz can be caused by genetics or hair damage, and is worsened by humidity. Frizzy hair is usually dry, and often damaged. The cuticle layer is raised, thus moisture can enter the hair shaft easily where it gets absorbed into the hair cortex and causes an irregular hair texture. Often, hair breakage occurs with frizzy hair resulting in broken hairs being shorter and springing outwards. You can control frizz by using sulfate-free hair care products that generously condition your hair and thus coat and smoothen the cuticle layer. Use our “pink” range of shampoo and conditioner bars and finish by applying a tiny amount of our frizz fighter bar into towel-dry hair before drying and styling. If your hair is extremely frizzy, you will enjoy our "green" conditioner bar, even if it is marked for coily/kinky hair.
Always make sure to treat your hair gently to frizz less in the long-term. Avoid excessive brushing, don’t shower with extra-hot water, forego hot styling tools whenever you can, and don’t towel dry your hair roughly but just gently squeeze out excess water. Always blow-dry frizzy hair down the hair shaft from roots to ends and avoid high temps when doing so. And if you can’t control your frizz completely, embrace the frizz that's left and remember that frizzy hair goes in and out of style and that you are beautiful inside and out, frizzy or not.
